MASTALGIA (Breast Pain)

First of all, don’t worry. Breast pain is mostly due to non-cancerous factors.

During childbirth, one side is slightly more moderate and spontaneously dissolves (I recommend not using gel painkillers). 10-15% of breast pains require medications because of their severity and discomfort.

There are two types of Real Mastalgia:

  1. Cyclical: begins 1 week before menstruation. It is usually mild and two-sided. It’s related to hormones. It is also sometimes seen in women taking hormonal therapy or taking oral contraceptives during perimenopause.
  2. Non-cyclic: There is no specific order. It may depend on the following reasons:
    • Excessive fat diet, excessive coffee consumption
    • Large and flattened breasts
    • Postmenopausal hormone therapy
    • Breast cysts
    • Ductal ectasia
    • Mastitis (breast infection)

If mastalgia affects your comfort of life and the pain doesn’t go away despite medications, I suggest that you consult your breast surgeon.
